ASSISTANT TEACHER

We are seeking a motivated and dedicated Assistant Teacher to join our team at our DHS-licensed after-school program for elementary students. As an Assistant Teacher, you will work closely with the Head Teacher to support the daily operation of the program and ensure a safe and positive learning environment for all students. You will be responsible for assisting with classroom management, supervising students, implementing lesson plans, and communicating with parents and guardians.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Experience working in a low income environment preferred

  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR preferred

  • High school diploma or GED required, some college coursework in education or related field preferred

  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with elementary students in a structured setting, such as after-school programs, camps, or youth organizations

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of educators and support staff

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, and staff

  • Knowledge of positive behavior management techniques and strategies

  • Ability to pass a background check and fingerprintng process

  • Must be available to work during program hours, typically Monday-Friday from 2:30pm-6:30p

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create a safe environment for children at all times

  • Build rapport with each individual child, make every child feel welcome in our program

  • Interact with children in a respectful and friendly manner

  • Assist the Lead Teacher with planning, preparing and implementing daily lesson plans

  • Supervise and engage with students during program activities and transitions

  • Ensure a safe and healthy environment for students by following safety and health procedures and reporting any incidents to the Lead Teacher or Site Director

  • Foster positive relationships with students and parents/guardians, and effectively communicate with them about the student's progress and behavior

  • Help manage student behavior through positive reinforcement and redirection techniques

  • Assist with maintaining accurate records and documentation related to student attendance, behavior, and progress

  • Collaborate with other program staff to support program goals and objectives

  • Attend regular staff meetings and professional development opportunities to maintain knowledge and skills in the field

LEARNING CENTER HOURS OF OPERATION: 2:15-5:45pm MONDAY-FRIDAY

  • Assistant Teacher must be able to commit to a minimum of two consistent days per week but may work up to five days

  • Compensation: $13-$15 per hour
